Hello fellow Mets fans. We are only 14 days into the month of May, and the Mets have somehow already lost 9 games.
This is coming off of what was a franchise best 11-1 start.
What once was a fully functioning offense in April has turned to shit in May. They have scored a whopping 26 runs in 11 games this month, which clocks in at a sparkling 2.4 runs per game. That’s not going to get the job done folks.
Mickey Callaway, the once revered manager that could do no wrong in April, has seen the ugly side of New York media turn on him in the matter of 1 month. In April, every button he pressed was the right one. Mickey’s decisions since the calendar flipped to May?
Mr. Glass-Half-Full Spin: The starting pitching outside of Jason “poop-tossin'” Vargas has held up their end of the bargain for the most part. This is still the strength of the team, and if they have any chances of contending, it needs to be on the arms of deGrom, Syndergaard, Matz, and Wheeler. Provided deGrom comes back to form after his injury scare, this team should still get quality pitching most nights.
The hitting cannot possibly be this bad all year long. The lineup is relatively healthy, but just not clicking on all cylinders yet. Conforto has shown signs of turning his season around the past week or so, and you have to simply hope that continues. Frazier will be back in the lineup soon and provide the emotional boost this team seems to be missing.
When it comes down to it, this team just needs a winning streak. It has been so long since they have had one, and their confidence is in the shitter. String a couple of high scoring games together, and the team will come around.
